On Monday, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a voluntary recall of a number of over-the-counter (OTC) medications used to treat erectile dysfunction. According to the FDA, such medications contain prescription-strength versions of the active ingredient tadalafil.
The recall of OTC medications includes one that is made by Eli Lilly, the company that makes Cialis and Cialis XR. Tadalafil is the active ingredient in the Cialis brand. The FDA said in a statement that Lilly's OTC products are the equivalent of a prescription medication.
In other words, the FDA had to recall one of the medications from the market by the time it made the drug. The drug is now being marketed as a treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension. There are currently 2 products made by other drug companies that are similar to Cialis XR, including Pfizer's Cialis SX and Viagra.
The FDA said in a statement that this is a "potentially serious safety risk for consumers" and that "the FDA is taking this information seriously and is assessing the risk appropriately."
The FDA has not been able to comment on whether there was an FDA "black box" warning on some of these OTC medications.
This recall is part of a larger effort by the pharmaceutical industry to remove the pharmaceutical industry from the market.

Whether you can take Tadalafil at the same time as your other medications will depend on which medications you are taking.
You are required to complete a short medical consultation questionnaire that asks for any medications that you are prescribed from your GP and will indicate the medications that can’t be taken alongside Tadalafil.
There are several medicines which should not be taken concurrently with Tadalafil. Medicines which can have potentially serious interactions with Tadalafil include :-
• Any alpha-blocker medicines e.g. doxazosin (Cardura), alfuzosin (Xatral), tamsulosin, terazosin, or Flomax, that you can buy in the pharmacy. (These medicines may be used to treat prostate problems or high blood pressure).
• Isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, or use a GTN spray or tablets

• Cimetidine, used to treat stomach or duodenal (peptic) ulcers
• Theophylline, used to treat asthma
• Antibiotics:- Clarithromycin, Erythromycin and Telithromycin
• Anti-fungals such as itraconazole and ketoconazole
• Seizure medication:- carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin and primidone
• Heart or blood pressure medication:- disopyramide, amiodarone, quinidine and procainamide
• Anti-viral medication:- telaprevir, atazanavir, retonavir, indinavir, saquinavir and cobicistat
• Recreational drugs:- amyl nitrate (poppers)

If you have such an erection, which lasts continuously for more than 4 hours you should contact a doctor immediately. sudden loss of vision (frequency rare). Other side effects have been reported:

headache, back pain, muscle aches, pain in arms and legs, facial flushing, nasal congestion, and indigestion. Uncommon (seen in 1 to 10 in every 1,000 patients)
dizziness, stomach ache, feeling sick, being sick (vomiting), reflux, blurred vision, eye pain, difficulty in breathing, presence of blood in urine, prolonged erection, pounding heartbeat sensation, a fast heart rate, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, nose bleeds, ringing in the ears, swelling of the hands, feet or ankles and feeling tired. Rare (seen in 1 to 10 in every 10,000 patients)
fainting, seizures and passing memory loss, swelling of the eyelids, red eyes, sudden decrease or loss of hearing, hives (itchy red welts on the surface of the skin), penile bleeding, presence of blood in semen and increased sweating. Heart attack and stroke have also been reported rarely in men taking CIALIS. Most of these men had known heart problems before taking this medicine.
Partial, temporary, or permanent decrease or loss of vision in one or both eyes has been rarely reported.
